Dr. Stauros Xionopoulos

Dr. Stavros Chionopoulos holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and a Master’s Degree in Naval and Marine Technology and Science (NTUA). His doctoral research focused on the experimental study and numerical modeling of arc welding in aluminum alloys.

Dr. Chionopoulos is a Certified International Welding Engineer (EWF/IIW) and a Certified Welding Inspector (CSWIP 3.1). His extensive professional experience includes failure analysis of metallic materials (expert assessments), consulting, design, engineering and supervision of welded structures, and training of technical staff and welders for a wide range of major companies in both the shipbuilding industry and industrial construction sector.

He currently serves as the Head Welding Engineer at Elefsis Shipyards, where he is responsible for the Naval Architecture, Welding, and Quality Control Departments.

Dr. Chionopoulos is also an Academic Fellow in the Department of Naval Architecture at the University of West Attica (UNIWA), where he teaches undergraduate courses in Welding and Shipbuilding Technology. In the recent past, he served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NTUA), teaching courses in Materials Science and Welding Technology.

He has participated in numerous national and international research programs in the fields of thermal processes and metal welding, and has authored and co-authored a significant number of scientific publications and conference papers in these areas.
